Debris & loading guide

Check the material before you fill the container.

A good rental starts with a clear description of the debris. DW confirms material acceptance and loading terms for the particular job. Tell the team about the complete load, including small amounts of material that need special handling.

Construction and cleanup debris.

Describe the lumber, drywall, renovation debris or other cleanup material you expect to load. Keep dense debris and special items identifiable in the request rather than simply calling everything ‘trash.’ If the load changes during the work, contact DW before adding material that was not part of the original discussion.

Concrete and dirt require the 16-yard container.

Only DW’s 16-yard dumpster may be used for heavy materials such as concrete and dirt under the current published guidance. Confirm loading height, weight and any restrictions on mixed material when ordering. More container volume does not create additional permissible weight.

Published prohibited materials.

DW/Tannahill’s current rental guidance excludes the following. Ask about any uncertain material before delivery rather than assuming an exception applies.

  • Asphalt roofing material and shingles
  • Whole used or scrap tires
  • Liquids and paint cans
  • Gases or compressed chemicals
  • Hazardous waste and medical waste
  • Carcasses

Keep the load within the agreed terms.

Do not load debris above the container’s top rail. Follow DW’s material-specific weight and loading instructions, distribute the load appropriately and keep access clear. Ask before loading dense, oversized or unusual items. The team must be able to safely retrieve and transport the container.

Questions before you rent

Can I put concrete or dirt in any dumpster?+

No. DW’s current guidance requires a 16-yard dumpster for heavy material such as concrete and dirt. Discuss the load and loading terms before ordering. Do not use a larger container for heavy material without approval.

What cannot go in the dumpster?+

Published restrictions include asphalt roofing material and shingles, whole used or scrap tires, liquids, paint cans, gases or compressed chemicals, carcasses, medical waste and hazardous waste. Describe the entire debris stream before booking and ask about any material you are unsure of.
