Think through the route from the house to the dumpster.
Houston Heights sits within the City’s Greater Heights area inside the North Loop. On an older-home project, a rear garage or side driveway can make the loading route as important as the container size. Tell DW whether debris will come through a side gate, past a parked vehicle or from a garage behind the house. Do not assume an alley or rear entrance can accommodate the delivery truck.
Set up the rental around the renovation.
For a kitchen or bathroom project, list cabinets, drywall, flooring and other material separately. Explain whether demolition happens in one push or several stages so the rental window can be discussed. A 12-yard or 20-yard is a starting point to review for some smaller and medium projects; volume, weight and access decide the fit. Concrete and dirt require the 16-yard option rather than a general mixed-debris container.
Check the property’s requirements before placement.
Some Heights properties are within historic districts; that does not mean every Heights address has the same rules. Check the City’s historic-preservation resources for your renovation scope, and discuss the placement with the property owner. If the plan involves a street, sidewalk or shared access, confirm permission and applicable requirements with the responsible authority. A rental request does not establish approval to occupy public space.
- Keep pedestrian routes and shared access clear.
- Mention low branches, overhead lines and any narrow driveway.
- Have the proposed placement reviewed before moving the debris outside.
Choose loading help if the carrying is the hard part.
A rental gives you time to sort and load approved items. If the project involves moving furniture from upstairs or carrying material from a rear garage, ask about a loading crew and describe those conditions. For either service, get the price, rental days or labor scope, disposal allowance and pickup process confirmed directly with DW. Roofing shingles and hazardous waste must stay out of the dumpster.
Questions before you rent
Can the dumpster go in my Heights alley?+
That needs an address-specific review. Tell DW about the alley width, turns, surface, gates and overhead obstacles. Private access and any public-space requirements must be confirmed before delivery.
Do all Heights homes have historic-district rules?+
No blanket assumption should be made. Check the property’s actual district status and renovation requirements with the City. DW still needs to review delivery access and the proposed placement.
